High Fat, Low Sugar
Fat seems to be a scary word for some time now. As a society, we have been, maybe wrongly, taught that foods low in fat are healthier. But how do you make foods that have zero fat tasty? Sugar and it is added to food to make it taste good and appetizing. At Larica Treats, we invest in fresh high-fat ingredients and use less sugar to sweeten our desserts. Our cheesecakes, for example, are 100% homemade, from the cheesecake batter to the crust and the topping. The cheesecakes are made with fresh high-fat cream cheese and Greek yogurt, both made with whole fresh milk and cream, organic fresh eggs, and a small amount of sugar. They are super creamy and aren’t overly sweet, like all of our desserts.
Our desserts are balanced in flavor and sweetness, using fresh high-fat ingredients and seasonal fruit. We want to be clear, however, our desserts do not claim to be healthy nor are they trying to be healthy, Larica uses white sugar to make all of our desserts. In comparison to other cakes from local bakeries, our cakes are not as sugar-packed and don’t make you feel heavy.
By using high-fat ingredients our cakes always taste fresh and light. Sugar, funny enough, is what makes desserts feel heavy, not high-fat ingredients. Not all high-fat ingredients are created equal, however, we invest in fresh, non-UHT, dairy; and when applicable, we use the best quality, high fat, margarine when making our vegan products.
We put genuine thought and care into the amount of sugar we use in making all of our cakes. Each recipe has been tried and tested to make the best-tasting, not-too-sweet dessert. Larica is known for a fresh-tasting, not-too-sweet dessert. Our carrot cake for example has less sugar in the frosting than traditional cream cheese frostings, and it is our best seller. It takes the cake!
